Your First Move
Protect yourself!
Your first step should be to get professional legal
advice. ICBC has created the natural mindset that your
first step must be to file a claim in order to receive
treatment and start to process your accident claim. This
is not true. Don’t allow them to get to you first. You
are fully entitled to first obtain legal advice in order
to best protect all your best interests. This first step
of consultation costs you nothing and could gain you
everything!
Be Careful!
-
Don’t
sign anything regarding your injury or accident
without first obtaining professional help! The first
statement you give ICBC describing the accident and
your injuries is the MOST IMPORTANT STATEMENT you
will give ICBC.
-
Don’t
discuss details of your accident with anyone no
matter how casual. They can be called to testify
against you.
-
Use
caution when receiving “well meaning” advice from
friends and such. This can lead to false
expectations and even poor direction. “Choosing your
lawyer should be no accident.”
-
Accuracy and content are vital. If you have already
signed a statement it’s not too late. Have it
reviewed by your lawyer immediately in order that ICBC can be notified of new information and changes.
-
Deal
from strength! Remember ICBC is not on your side.
They will be looking after their best interests,
which includes settling for as little as possible.
-
Never
assume that an adjuster is making you a "fair or
reasonable offer". If you want to know the value of
your claim get advice from someone on your side.
Timing
is important!
From the very beginning our goal is to ensure you
receive prompt and full medical treatment, direct and
professional contact with ICBC along with the gathering
of medical and non-medical evidence while still fresh.
Timing combined with complete, confidential and personal
information allows us to plan the best strategies to
establish and maintain the correct road to recover all
your losses. The best timing is now!
Allow us to pilot and contribute in confidence to a
successful conclusion that includes your safety, mental
health and peace of mind along the way.
