Personal Services

We
understand that each client’s needs and wants are unique
both in life and in the case of death. We also
understand variations in the law and seek to create an
estate plan or legal strategy that allows for client’s
desire to pass on his or her wealth or assets to the
next generation. Full consideration is given to asset
ownership, its protection and distribution including
special attention in each case to the most tax efficient
manner available.

The
primary purpose of a will is the best distribution of
assets and wealth according to the will of the deceased
and the needs of the survivors. Flexibility is also
important as special changes may occur at times before
and even after the testator’s death. Protection and
prevention are also key elements. A properly designed
and executed will sets out the real intentions of the
deceased and may prevent future disputes or attacks from
others.
We create a wide variety of wills, from the simple to
very complex. We treat each will as a singularly
important document which alone will clearly declare,
establish and ensure the full intentions of the client
are reached. From the beginning it is important to us
that each client understands the full value of what they
are signing and that it meets with their wishes.
Protection and peace of mind make up the bottom line.
We also protect the document itself. We believe it is in
the best interest of the client to sign a power of
attorney at this time as well as register the will with
the Vital Statistics Agency of the Province of British
Columbia. This ensures a fail-safe record. We will also
store the original will without charge within our vaults
for safekeeping or you may retain it yourself. After
death, we are familiar with the probate procedures as
well as the need for quick preparation of the necessary
filings which will set your heirs on the road to
receiving their gifts. We take special pride in not only
assuring your wishes are carried out but also in our
manner of dealing with those you care about.

Many
people today over the age of 65 years choose not leave a
will, but use an Alter Ego Trust. It is important that
these are drawn to meet the donor’s wishes and still
leave enough power in the hands of trustees to meet
changing conditions. What these trusts do is save your
estate probate fees and legal costs on death. They are
also tax free, completely flexible and a good instrument
to consider in estate planning. Trusts are also useful
for a Health and Welfare basis in order to preserve a
person’s status as a dependent under current BC
legislation. There are a wide range of trusts available
with the ability to build in special advantages to meet
each client’s unique needs. Three of these trusts as
examples are “Spendthrift Trust”, “Family Trust”, and
Charitable Remainder Trusts. We would be pleased to
create a plan or strategy to add to your particular
estate plan.
